Clubs & Activities

At Hart, our motto is “Lead with H.A.R.T.” which represents being Helpful, Accountable, Respectful, and Thoughtful. Hart Middle School provides many different student activities in order to build a positive school culture, and to help all students feel a sense of belonging. For these reasons, we strive to offer events and activities which appeal to a broad range of student interests, increase school spirit and student participation, and encourage all students to Lead with H.A.R.T.!

Note: some clubs may have membership-joining deadlines, and/or fees for supplies.

Project Lit

Project Lit is a national, grassroots LITeracy movement, a network of dedicated teachers and students who are committed to increasing access to culturally relevant books and promoting a love of reading in our schools and communities.

We work together to:
• Empower students as READERS and LEADERS in their school and community.
• Host monthly or quarterly Project LIT Book Clubs.
• Flood our schools and communities with high-quality, culturally relevant books.
• Champion & celebrate reading daily.
• Inspire and support one another through sharing of lesson plans, resources, strategies, and book recommendations.
• Create opportunities for students to connect with peers around the country.
• Advocate for policies & practices that will help our students become lifelong leaders.

Readers select novels from the national chapters recommendation, read a novel chosen by the group in between meetings, and meet to discuss topics, connections, and wonderings. For more details please visit the Project Lit Website:

W.E.B. - Where Everybody Belongs (6th Grade Peer Mentoring Program)

W.E.B. is a middle school orientation and transition program for incoming 6th grade students. Select 8th grade students serve as mentors and student leaders, and help create a supportive, anti-bullying environment. Current 7th grade students apply to be WEB Leaders for the program each spring. The WEB Leaders for the 2023-2024 school year have been selected.

E-Bots Robotics Club

Hart E-Bots is a 7th and 8th grade club which participates in the FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Competition (FTC) each year. The season typically runs from September through December.

It is much more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (up to 15 team members) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team.

The robot kit is reusable from year to year, and can be coded using a variety of levels of Java-based programming. Teams design and build robots, raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach to earn specific awards. Each season concludes with regional championship events and an exciting FIRST Championship, which has been held in Detroit the last few years.

FIRST has many levels of robotics competitions starting in elementary school and culminating with high school (Grades 9-12). The Cyber Cats are our Stoney Creek High School FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team, and is the next step in robotics after E-Bots.

Dean Kamen, who is the founder of FIRST, says it best....."We are not using students to build robots, we use robots to build students!"

Yearbook Club

Student Council

Student Council supports community activities (food drives, support for Rainbow Connection, etc.), plans and runs school assemblies, promotes school spirit, and organizes special school activities. 6th and 7th grade students interested in applying for Student Council must complete an application in the spring of each school year to be considered for the following school year. Students are selected for Student Council based on the quality of their application, an in-person interview with a Student Council advisor, and teacher recommendations.

Student Council members for the 2023-2024 school year have been selected.

Applications for 2024-2025 Student Council will be available in late May 2024.

Hart's Faculty Advisors for Student Council are Mrs. Laura Reinke and Mrs. Amber Golden.

Hart Beautification Club

Looking for motivated Hart students who enjoy gardening and making their school community a beautiful place! We meet monthly on Thursday afternoons to plan, plant, weed, rake, decorate, feed birds, and create! All are welcome. No gardening experience is required. We look forward to gardening with you!

*The first meeting is Thursday, September 28 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The Hart Beautification Club is hosted by Mrs. Lisa Dimefski and Mrs. Julie Monroe, and supported & funded by Hart's PTSA.

Hart Ski and Snowboard Club

Registration for the Hart Ski & Snowboard Club will open in October 2023. Watch for announcements in our e-newsletter, Hart Headlines, as well as a School Messenger email which will be sent to all families when registration opens.

About Hart Ski & Snowboard Club:

Whether you are an experienced skier or snowboarder, or want to learn, this is the club for you! Our club is open to all Hart students and their parents/guardians. Memberships, rental equipment and lessons are all discounted to make this season at Pine Knop affordable and enjoyable for our members.

Chaperones: Each student must be accompanied by a chaperone. The chaperone does not have to ski, but must remain on premises.

REACH TOO

Hart's Christian Club, REACH TOO, is a student-led Bible study which meets during lunch every Thursday beginning October 5, 2023. Everyone is welcome! Meetings include social time/fellowship, discussion of a Bible verse or topic, and prayer. Bring your lunch and enjoy some fellowship!

Students who have "A" Lunch will meet in Mrs. Muscillo's classroom (A5)

Students who have "B" Lunch will meet in Mrs. Dosch's room (A14)

Students who have "C" Lunch will meet in Mrs. Strausbaugh's room (A12)

Culture Club

Hart's Culture Club meets every other Wednesday (beginning October 4, 2023) from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in room A2. Our club's belief is that multicultural knowledge must be part of a complete educational experience. Students who enjoy and appreciate learning about other cultures which make up our global community are welcome to participate! The club is open to all Hart students in grades 6, 7 and 8 who are looking to explore, promote, and celebrate different cultures.
